Principal's Message
Todd Beamer Titan families,
We are looking forward to greeting all our new and retuning Titan scholars on September 2nd for the first day of the 2025-2026 school year! Our team is excited for the new year and ready to get off to a strong start. In this message, I want to prepare our families and scholars for some important events and changes that are happening this year.
Please join us for our annual Titan Tip Off event on Wednesday, August 20th from 5:30-7:30 pm! This is your chance to explore all the clubs and sports that TBHS has to offer, meet staff, coaches, student leaders, take a tour of the school, and to get some hot dogs and ice cream. We’ll have an athletics family meeting during Titan Tip-Off, so if you are a family member of a TBHS athlete, you’ll want to be sure to attend and hear from our new athletic director, Amber Plummer! I encourage ALL scholars who are not already on a school athletic team or in an after-school club to attend Titan Tip-Off to see how they want to get involved; research shows that involvement in school activities is one of the leading positive influences on an adolescent’s sense of belonging and academic success in high school. We want ALL of our scholars to find a place to be positively involved and included at Todd Beamer!
As you may have seen in some of Dr. Pfeiffer’s summer newsletters, we have some changes coming to Todd Beamer as well. First, the digital hall pass system we piloted last Spring is rolling out to all secondary schools for this coming school year. Scholars will ask their teacher for a digital pass, and the teacher will approve the pass. Ultimately, it will change very little in the classroom for scholars while making hallway and bathroom use less stressful for all; the digital hall pass allows us to better hold scholars accountable who are abusing their hall pass privileges and limit the number of passes at a time to a given location, helping to reduce unwanted activities.
The second big change is our new district cell phone and personal electronics policy. The expectation of all scholars is that their phones will be put away and inaccessible during class time AND during the transition time between classes. Phones will only be allowed out during lunch time, before school, and after school. Research shows that even having one phone out and visible in a room distracts all people in the room, and that high phone usage is associated with fewer and weaker social connections, poor sleep, and difficulty focusing on a tasks. We also know that heavy phone use, and heavy use of social media in particular, is associated with higher rates of anxiety, depression, and other symptoms of poor mental health. Our staff will model these expectations for scholars as well. In the newsletter below, I outline a few things I urge you to try at home to help prepare your teen for the new electronics policy.
I look forward to partnering with you this year in supporting all our amazing Todd Beamer HS scholars!
Let’s roll, Titans!
